Competence Domains

THE COMPETENCE DOMAIN STRUCTURE SUPPORTS THE COORDINATION OF R&D PROJECTS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGICAL FIELDS.

The Competence Domain (CD) structure has been introduced within ESA to ensure the collection and coordination of the widest range of expert views in their organisational unit and beyond, by means of internal discussions and working groups.

This structure is composed of 10 Competence Domains (with members from TEC and OPS) of which the coordination is ensured the TEC Directorate.

The CDs have the capability, amongst others, to contribute to the formulation of the “bottom-up” strategy for R&D, whilst supporting the “top down” or mission-oriented one provided through the TECNET mechanism by the Programmes.

The CDs also ensure the promotion, coordination, follow-up and selection of activities.
