The ESA REACH* Office is responsible for formulating recommendations to ESA technology programs addressing obsolescence risks associated with REACH regulation, and obsolescence risk mitigation actions as inputs for ESA R&D funding schemes, in coordination with the Clean Space cross-cutting Initiative.
The ESA REACH Office organises regular awareness sessions, webinars and REACH workshops. The ESA REACH workshop is dedicated to sharing knowledge and exchanging information with other space agencies, regulatory authorities, the prime industry, and SMEs. The presented materials are available on the event pages (5th ESA REACH WS 19th June 2024).
In addition, the ESA REACH Office supports ESA projects in the matters associated with material obsolescence and REACH compliance. Through the Materials and Processes Technology Board (MPTB), ESA’s REACH officer attends the broader forum on matters related to REACH and other relevant regulations impacting the European space sector.
If you are interested in ESA's contributions, or looking for broader European space sector-wide coordinated actions, please follow MPTB pages on the ESCIES website , or visit the Eurospace -REACH website .
There are multiple documents, guidelines and position papers recently published by MPTB on ESCIES , which could be useful for any company which is building space hardware within EU/EEA.
Last but not least, for monitoring regulatory constraints associated with chemical substances declared in space-relevant materials and manufacturing processes, ESA, with the help of REACHLaw and the TERMA IT support team, develops and maintains the ESA REACH Tool. Eligibility to become a user is linked to space-relevant activities under ESA member states and associate states space programmes.
