Software Systems Laboratory

The Software Systems Laboratory supplies hardware and software infrastructure as well as specialised equipment and tools to support R&D activities and missions at ESA, including flight software (platform and payload onboard software) and ground software for systems supporting spacecraft development, specifically functional verification. We also have in-house software tools and simulators, such as the Wavemill end-to-end simulator, the SAR design and analysis tool for modelling instruments and StarGym, which simulates GNSS reflectometry.

Flight software and ground software for systems supporting spacecraft development

State-of-the-art hardware and software infrastructure with non-standard requirements

The Software Systems Lab has state-of-the-art hardware and software infrastructure with non-standard requirements such as configurability, high availability and reliability, supported by a variety of computing platforms and specialised hardware.

LAB FACILITIES

EGSE Reference Test Facility

A zone for Electrical Ground Support Equipment: dedicated flight representative hardware with specific interfaces, computing and simulation capabilities. This facility supports current legacy systems based on SCOS but will be extended with the next generation European Ground System Common Core. The maintenance of this system that will be used across Europe in every ESA project, is to be done here.

Instruments/Specs

System Reference Database

A zone for the development and maintenance of system reference databases in project support and development of new technologies and demonstrations.

Instruments/Specs

MTG Lightning Imager Test bench

A specific test setup for the MTG project to prototype solutions for the Lightning Imager software and on board computer.
