GSTP enables ESA to fulfil its objectives to utilise space to the benefit of society.

The GSTP takes previously proven innovations through successive stages of engineering, finally evolving it into fully tested hardware to be ready for adoption by future missions.

GSTP MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Enabling missions of ESA and national programmes by developing technology, fostering reactiveness and encouraging timeliness

Fostering innovation by creating new products and building capacity while reducing risk

Supporting the competitiveness of European industry and strengthening interactions with the main space actors

Improve European technological non-dependence and availability of European sources for critical technologies

5

Facilitate spin-in from outside the space sector

THE PROGRAMME IS STRUCTURED INTO THREE ELEMENTS:

Develop

Frameworks and cross-cutting initiatives: 

De-Risk l Building Blocks l Advanced Manufacturing 

Element 1

DEVELOP supports technology developments, building blocks and ESA technology targets.

Make

Permanent open call in ESA STAR (currently AO7935).

Element 2

MAKE includes industry initiated and driven co-funded activities to strengthen competitiveness and sustainability.

A mechanism for industry to submit unsolicited proposals for market-oriented technology activities. 

Fly

Permanently open Call for Proposals on OSIP for industry initiated activities.

Cycle: Permanent running programme with regular updates to the work plan throughout the year.

Procurement Policy: Optional Programme, GEO return of 1, Open Competitive (non-competitive tenders are possible).

Element 3

FLY is the small missions programme of the Agency, IOD/IOV’s implement in-orbit demonstrations of technologies in need of acquiring flight heritage, preparation of future missions and small missions.

Flight opportunities identified with ESA projects and launchers, with National agencies and with primes.

Supports the CubeSat framework.
